This year Juniper Farm introduced an amazing Sunflower Maze to our community! It is a perfect spot to take family photos in Wakefield and it’s only 30 minutes from Ottawa!
The perfect place for kids (and adults!) to run around and explore!
The Sunflower Maze opened in August and lasted almost a full month in 2024. My children dove right in and ran through all the pathways and eventually settled into a game of hide and seek. They could have played there for hours!
A maze big enough that you may not see other people!
Though we are usually at Juniper Farm because of the community and friends we often run into, our first visit (yes, we went three times!) was even more fun because there’s so much space and the maze is so large that we barely ran into the other families!

-which included researching new field cultivation machinery and seeders for our tractor and following the selection process of that, revamping our entire garden spacing and seeding to reflect our new mechanical infrastructure. Our family are huge fans of the Farmwhiches and the Farm Bowls. Our youngest is “the guy” who orders the same thing every time - a muffin. There’s a beautiful sitting area under a tent or outside by the fruit tree and in the front garden.
Best thing about the whole visit is that it can last a few hours!

This place gets my professional family photography stamp of approval! The sunflowers were beautiful, the maze is huge and there are lots of nooks and crannies to slide into to capture beautiful images!
The combination of fun, exploration and beauty makes this a perfect place to capture family photos in the fall!

While you sit nearby with your meal or coffee - you can also have a chat with the many chickens, roosters and donkeys at the farm!
Often the kitchen staff will have some food scraps so the kids can feed them. This spot has been my toddler’s favourite place most of his life. He calls it to this day “Jupiner Farm”.
My children also love that their “Mom is named after a donkey”…is how my daughter put it a few years ago…
Recently, I asked Juniper, “What was the best part of this sunflower maze experiment?”
The best part of the maze for me personally was to see an idea sprout and come to such a spectacular and beautiful fruition. The daily installation of beauty on our farm came with yelps of joy and laughter and screams of delight as the soundtrack. These golden giants are mesmerizing and alone or with others, I think most people got to have a moment of transcendental sheer beauty bliss. You know, the Omg moment.
It was fun and inspiring to be a witness.
We will definitely continue the Sunflower Maze for years to come!
