An Ottawa in home newborn lifestyle session is a great way to create photos of your family as you get to know your new baby in the familiar comfort of home. I will arrive and often have older siblings take me on a tour of the house so we can get to know each other a little bit. From there I will spend time with your family as you do the things you usually do. I will work with the energy of your family - if we need to go outside (or WANT to), we will go for a walk in your neighbourhood.

I have worked (and run around!) with this awesome family for a few years. I was so excited to meet their new little guy at their home this fall. I love capturing kids as they are - because that is how we will remember our children - their silly antics are what I love to photograph! The real-life moments that happen between the shots are what I love to capture too. There were breaks to read books, drink milk and then we wrapped up the session in the beautiful fall colours.

Mom took some time with me and answered a few questions about her experience below.

Why did you choose to have an in home newborn session?

I didn't have professional newborn photos taken with my first two children, and I regret it. I saw some of the pictures from other Breathe In newborn sessions, and I loved how organic and natural the photos were. I love looking at the pictures Kim took of our family in our home. The bigger kids had such a good time giving Kim a tour, and I think it helped us all relax to be in our own space for the photo shoot.

Do you have a favourite image or two? What about them stands out?

This picture of my husband is one of my absolute favourites. He is usually pretty tense and uncomfortable whenever I try to take his picture. In this photo, he's so relaxed and handsome. Kim managed to capture him the way I see him.

We used this photo (below) for our Christmas cards because it made me really happy. It's a pretty spot on representation of us. All doing something different, but happy together.

Who would your recommend an in home newborn session to?

Oh my gosh! Everyone really! Even if new parents got a studio session. There is something really wonderful and intimate about seeing beautiful pictures of your new baby at home and integrated with the family life.
