Ottawa Water Birth at Home | Elle Odyn Photography & Film

I did it! I did it!

Yes you did!

This is my friend of many years - we had our babies at the same time and were neighbours and spend hours walking with our babies on our backs in Vanier. Those times were key in our sense of community as new moms back then and I was so grateful to photograph and film the birth of her third at home.

She rocked and swayed and danced as baby made her way down - and when the pool was filled she settled in to the pool. She trusted her body and moved in ways that her body and baby called for. The room was very dark but a few dim lamps and the light from the hallway.

Her midwife knit and checked in when needed and was there as she was born into her mom’s arms - it was a beautiful, calm, joyous birth!

We have lots of options for water birth in Ottawa.

Families can rent pools from local doulas and have them set up in their homes. The Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre has gorgeous tubs with wraps hanging down and a never-ending supply of hot water. Many people choose to labour in the shower or bathtub at home too.

Water offers buoyancy and support and the warmth soothes. Read here for more information on water birth in Ottawa.

Ottawa Birth Films

This birth was mostly filmed as that was the priority but of course we still captured some beautiful stills. Elle Odyn Photography & Film can do both at your birth - and I’m always happy to focus solely on filming your story. These are the films you will go back to with your children over and over again. I have many past clients who tell me they watch them on every birthday.
